As I’m going to be sticking around I thought I’d let you know all about my family, The McFarlanes…
Some of you will already know about what family life is currently like for us but I’d like to let you know all about us too, things like; what we do for a living, our beliefs what we like and what we get up to in our spare time.
If you’re not familiar with us we are a family of four from Scotland. My wife’s name is Ruth, we’ve been together 9 years and married for 5 years on the 14th July 2017. I have a daughter, Alba, who will be 3 in September and son called Arran who’s 6 months old.
Okay so here goes…
I think I’ll start with our jobs, although I’d love to be a stay at home dad or SAHD, unfortunately money talks and were not in a position to do this. Saying that, I also love my job. I currently work for a freight forwarding company, my particular role within the company is to make sure Dangerous goods are packed and documented correctly so they are safe to transport all around the world. I work there Tuesday – Friday which gives me a Monday at home to spend time with my family.
Ruth is currently off on maternity leave from being a primary teacher in a very small rural school local to where we live, her class was a mixed P1-P3 class and before going off on maternity leave she only had 18 pupils in her class. I have so much respect for her and anyone who chooses to work with children, it can be so wonderful and rewarding but also so tough. She also only works for days, Monday – Thursday, so gets a Friday off.
I’m sure Ruth will agree, although we love our jobs, having one day off to spend with our children is priceless, and we are so grateful to be in a position that allows us to be able to do that.
We have both been brought up to be very family orientated, we weekly (if not daily) speak to or visit our family. Pros, we have lots of babysitters. Cons, we see our family a lot. I’m obviously joking, I love you all. Mum can’t wait to see you on Wednesday and then all day at my sister-in-laws wedding on Thursday. Some of you might know her as Amy from AmyBeingMum. If you don’t please go have a read of her blogs and watch her very funny vlogs.
We are also both from Roman Catholic families, this was not planned but a very happy coincidence that we share the same beliefs and we can continue to pass these beliefs onto our children should they wish us to.
On top of all that, our main beliefs are to be nice, kind and good people. This sounds so simple but more often than not it’s actually the hardest thing to do.
Now me… I love watching most sports, as I’m sure my wife will attest to, anything from boxing, tennis, athletics, rugby, golf or even wrestling (yeah that’s a sport) and I still record it every week. 🤣 However, my main passion is football and the team I follow is Celtic FC, and much to my wife’s disapproval I try watch most games. I use to play a little bit too but the age and illness soon put a stop to all that. Besides sports I also love going to the cinema or watching a good movie on T.V. I’d better stop before this starts sounding like a dating ad..
My wife main love’s are probably sleeping or getting a good new book to read, although she doesn’t get much time to do either anymore. She’s not one for films like me, but she does love finding a good box set or reality T.V show to relax and watch once the kids are in bed.
As a couple we love going out for meals together or for a few cocktails, as I said earlier we have plenty of babysitters to utilise, so once I’m able again a few date night’s are definitely on the cards. That day can’t come quick enough.
So that’s a little bit about my family and an insight into our likes and beliefs. Hope you’ve enjoyed reading about us and continue to follow me throughout my new blogging adventure.
This real life Dad xx
